Thoracic Spine

This reference provides guidance for the evaluation and treatment of cervical and thoracic problems. This third edition is revised and updated with current information from nationally recognized leaders in the field of spinal manipulation.

This issue, our first two topics issue, covers the essential information that general diagnostic radiologists need to know in the areas of chest imaging and neuroimaging. In the thoracic section, imaging of the solitary pulmonary nodule, lung cancer and other malignancies, vascular disease, and infection are reviewed. In the neuroimaging section, imaging of multiple sclerosis, spine trauma, lymph node evaluation, stroke, vascular injury, and pediatric emergencies.

Thoracic vertebrae - The thoracic vertebrae (vertebrae thoracales) compose the middle segment of the vertebral column, between the cervical vertebrae and the lumbar vertebrae. They are intermediate in size between those of the cervical and lumbar regions; they increase in size as one proceeds down the spine, the upper vertebrae being much smaller than those in the lower part of the region.

Thoracotomy - Thoracotomy is a surgical incision into the chest. It is performed by a surgeon to gain access to the thoracic organs, most commonly the heart, the lungs, the esophagus or thoracic aorta, or for access to the anterior spine.
